The geneS ^H (hirsutum petal spot) is slightly mutable somatically on (a) ahirsutum background, and (b) a background predominantlybarbadense. 2. The geneS ^P (purpurascens petal spot) becomes increasingly mutable, both somatically and gametically,pari passu with the replacement ofpurpurascens byhirsutum genes.
