Dilute-solution viscosity of polymethyl methacrylate and a methyl methacrylate-styrene copolymer
Specific viscosity data were obtained for polymethyl methacrylate, polystyrene, and a methyl methacrylate-styrene copolymer, in a variety of solvents. The “solvent power” of a given solvent for the methyl methacrylate group in the polymer and the copolymer depends not only upon the cohesive energy density of the solvent but also upon the electron-donating or electron-accepting properties of the solvent. In the case of polymethyl methacrylate, a definite inverse correlation between intrinsic viscosity and k′ value was observed.
