LARGE CHUNKS cut from domestic stocks of ammonium sulfate and ammonium nitrate by purchases for the Far East, principally Korea, have given a firmer tone to the markets for nitrogen materials. There are no disturbing influences at work at the,moment, and factors in ammonium sulfate are forecasting a steady price situation for that product for the remainder of the 1956- 57 season ending next June. Korean nitrogen requirements from U. S. producers consisted of 67,500 metric tons (2204.6 pounds) of ammonium sulfate, all coke-oven; 2000 metric tons of urea; and 28,500 metric tons of ammonium nitrate. In addition, Japan is supplying 155,500 tons of ammonium sulfate and 15,000 metric tons of urea, while Canada is furnishing 12,500 tons of ammonium sulfate and 28,500 tons of ammonium nitrate.
