The 'perfect storm of misery' by which PCL's Rob Clayton categorised the 2012 growing season has continued to blow for many growers, particularly those in the south-west and west of the country. Relentless rain has hindered planting of first earlies.ROGER TURFF reportsThe Met Office long-term fore-cast up to mid-March sug-gests only the most modestrelief from the recent rains and hints at the prospect, in worst hit areas, of frosts between the visits of passing wet weather systems. As a result, the potential for a flight of growers from the potato crop is hardening up following the wettest wintersince records began.
