Public Attitudes Towards Oral Arguments

Black, Ryan C.   Owens, Ryan J.   Johnson, Timothy R.   Wedeking, Justin
Abstract

We report the results of an April 2020 survey where we asked nearly 1500 individuals about their views toward oral argument. The results suggest that there is robust support for the actions recently taken by the US Supreme Court to hold live streamed teleconference arguments in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. These results hold across the partisanship of the respondents, as well. Last, they reaffirm the idea that the public wants cameras to be allowed in the courtroom.
