Introduction: Mr. Halbouty graduated from Montana College of Mineral Science and Technology, where he received an honorary degree of Doctor of Engineering. As a Member of the US National Academy of Engineering, Mr. Halbouty was elected Foreign Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1996.Michael Halbouty began his research into petroleum geological conditions in Texas and Gulf of Mexico in the early 1930s. His contributions were indispensible to the discovery of American largest old field East Texas Oil Field in addition to his further studies of the field’s structure and type of oil pool. He had extremely in-depth achievements in studying the salt dome of Gulf of Mexico with unique understanding the formation of salt domes and their control over petroleum and gas aggregation, on which he had a number of published articles. Michael Halbouty was former chairman of AAPG, a co-founder of the Geological Society of America (GSA), and a globally renowned expert in the geological and engineering community. He was invited to make lectures by many governments and mining and resource authorities. In the 1980s, he created the Circum-Pacific Council for Energy and Mineral Resources, which was specialized in the studying and disseminating information related to energy and mining resources in the region. Throughout his lifetime, Michael Halbouty wrote over 300 articles and a number of books, and was awarded many major prizes in the US and internationally.
