Professor Tasuku Fuwa was born in 1915, and graduated from JapanTohoku University with a doctoral degree in engineering in 1962. He is a foreign member of US National Academy of Engineering, and was elected foreign member of Chinese Academy of Engineering in 1996.Professor Tasuku Fuwa is an outstanding figure in the field of ferrous metallurgy technology. He measured the thermochemistry parameters of many important alloying elements in the molten iron and conducted studies on the hydrogen’s incorporation process into the molten steel through slag, as well as the steel’s decarburization, deoxygenation and denitrification process, which have constituted important basis for the improvement of steel making and developmet of new processes. He verified the reduction mechanism of iron ore pellets and ascertained the reason and preventions for abnormal inflation during reduction. In the 1980s, his statement on reduction reaction of iron oxide or the slag is of great significance for exploring new procedure of ironmaking. His technical achievements make him a figure of authorities in the field of iron and steel in Japan, and also won him high international reputation.
