Ramallah, 3 June 2019 – within the framework of the Memory of the World Programme, UNESCO is launching in Palestine a survey addressed to all documentary heritage institutions, to understand their needs, capacities and challenges in preserving and promoting documentary heritage. This survey is part of the regional project “Supporting documentary heritage preservation in the Arab region”.

The overall purpose of this project is to understand the needs and challenges of documentary heritage institutions and collectors in the Arab region to build their capacities and strengthen knowledge and information sharing. 
 
Completion of this survey by documentary heritage institutions and collectors in Palestine will help UNESCO identify areas where additional support is needed. The results of this survey will include key recommendations for documentary heritage institutions and will be presented during a regional conference in October 2019.    
 
Based on the training needs expressed, a series of capacity-building workshops will be offered to a selected number of institutions that took part in this survey, starting from November 2019. UNESCO National Office for Palestine, through the Communication and Information sector is leading the mapping and survey to complement the data surveyed in Palestine.
