On 3rd February 2009, the RCREEE Board of Trustees Meeting convened for its first official meeting in Cairo. The Board of Trustees is the supreme body of RCREEE and comprises representatives from the 10 RCREEE member states. At the meeting, the RCREEE Organizational Charta was officially adopted. In addition, the Board of Trustees has elected the RCREEE Executive Committee that will be entrusted with overseeing the implementation of the decisions of the Board of Trustees. It is designated to act as link between the Board of Trustees, represent the member states and the RCREEE secretariat. It is also entrusted with the day to day management of the Center.
The Egyptian Minister of Electricity and Energy, HE Dr. Hassan Younes, opened the meeting in the presence of the Ambassador of Germany and representatives of the EU Delegation and the Danish Embassy.
During the first three years term, the RCREEE Executive Committee will consist of Professor Adel Khalil (Cairo University, chairman), Eng. Ziad Gebril Sabra (Director of Alternative Energy and Energy Efficiency, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jordan) and Eng Abdelali Dakkana (Director at CEDER, Morocco). As Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Eng. Abdel Rahman Salah (CEO of NREA, Egypt) was elected.
The Board of Trustees further extended the mandate of the RCREEE Interim Secretariat, consisting of Dr. Kilian Baelz (Acting Director – Head of Interim Secretariat), Eng. Samir Hassan (Technical Director – Senior Advisor to the Interim Secretariat), Mrs. Amel Bida (Senior Expert), Bothayna Rashed (Senior Expert), and Eng. Ashraf Kraidy (Senior Expert). The Interim Secretariat, which comprises members from Egypt, Tunisia, Syria and Germany with specializations in engineering, economics, law and finance reflects both the regional orientation of the Center as well as the broad scope of its activities and expertise.
On 4th February 2009, RCREEE convened a Renewable Energy Round table. At the round table, Egyptian and regional experts engaged in a lively discussion on the potentials of the Mediterranean Solar Plan and the regulatory framework to support green electricity production. The round table demonstrated the Center’s strength as a regional policy platform with the capacity to bring experts from the region together in order to discuss topical issues.
