Nintendo Adds Labo VR Support to Mario and Zelda Games
Nintendo Switch Super Mario Odyssey Labo VR Kit Update

Last month, Nintendo announced you'd soon be able to turn your Switch into a virtual reality headset thanks to a new Labo kit. Now Nintendo is adding support to two of the Switch's most popular games in preparation.

As Kotaku reports, Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild are both receiving free updates in order to support the Labo VR Kit.

For Mario, a new "bite-sized bonus experience" is being added to the game in order to offer some "family-friendly VR." The new content takes the form of three mini-missions which tasks the player with collecting musical notes and coins in order to complete objectives. The missions are set in the Cap, Seaside, and Luncheon Kingdoms.

For Breathe of the Wild, Nintendo is promising to let you "see Link's world in a whole new way." A new toggle to "Use VR Goggles" will appear in the game's Options menu, which then allows you to play while wearing the VR Labo kit. No new save game is required to use it, simply turn it on or off as you desire.

The Mario update definitely seems the better of the two here as it adds new content. Breathe of the Wild is a long game and I don't think playing the whole experience wearing the Switch as a makeshift VR headset will do your eyes much good. It's more likely a feature you'll try once and then only try again to show your friends.

The Nintendo Labo VR Kit launches on April 12 for either $79.99 or $39.99 depending on which kit you choose. The free game updates arrive on April 25.
