Welcome to the IKCEST
Twitter’s ‘Edit Tweet’ feature is finally on its way and here's how it could work

The Edit Tweet button on Twitter is a highly anticipated feature among users of the social media giant. Of late, you may have started hearing about it as the brand itself announced that it is working on the same. Although initially it was assumed to be an April Fool’s day prank, later was revealed to be true. Some users have even been able to get access to the feature and shared how it works. Without much ado, let’s see the new Twitter feature in action.

First, we have got screenshots of the Edit Tweet option from a mobile developer and leaker, Alessandro Paluzzi.

Once you publish a tweet, you will see ‘Edit Tweet’ among the list of options within the 3-dot menu. Tap it and you will see the original tweet in the editing mode. Make the required changes and hit the Update button. The tweet will be updated with the edits you made. That’s it.

Additionally, another developer named Nima Owji also shared how to edit the tweets, but he showed this in the form of a GIF. So, it may give you a better idea of how this Editing function works.

Mr Owji says that you can only edit the text content of the tweet and you won’t be able to change the audience once the tweet has been posted.

Now, even though this enlightens us about the basic functioning of the Twitter Edit feature, it doesn’t answer some of our questions.

For instance, neither of them tells us if we can edit only a portion of the tweet or in its entirety. It isn’t revealed if our audience or viewers would be able to see the changes. We don’t know how many times we may be able to edit a tweet. Also, it isn’t clear how the edits affect the retweets.

Going forward, we may learn about them in leaks and official revelations from Twitter. However, for now, these are some queries bothering us.

One last thing, we know that the Twitter Edit Tweet functionality will be an exclusive feature for Twitter Blue subscribers, at least in the early days.

1/ We’ve been exploring how to build an Edit feature in a safe manner since last year and plan to begin testing it within @TwitterBlue Labs in the coming months. Sharing a few more insights on how we’re thinking about Edit https://t.co/WbcfkUue8e

Perhaps, if Twitter sees some change in its top management, things may change course. As you may know, the free-speech evangelist and tech-billionaire Elon Musk is also a big proponent of this feature. You may have also heard that he is eyeing a hostile take-over of the company. If in case you haven’t, you can read about the whole Elon Musk Twitter saga here.
