The Best Christmas Movies Streaming Right Now

It's almost time for a fat guy to break into your house, eat your food, and leave some trinkets for your rugrats. Merry Christmas, everyone!

How better to celebrate the birth of Jesus than with movies that celebrate the season. From It's a Wonderful Life to Home Alone, never let it be said that Hollywood passed up an opportunity to get its Christmas on. So pull on your toastiest PJs, brew up some Irish coffee, and fire up your favorite video-streaming service to help you get festive.

Some classics aren't streaming, but if you really want to watch Elf or A Christmas Story, just turn on the nearest TV. I think it's required by law that both be broadcast at all times over the next few days.

If it's Christmas cheer you crave, here's what you can watch right now courtesy of favorite internet-connected device.

  • It's a Wonderful Life (1946)

What type of impact have you had on your family and community? George Bailey wasn't so sure until an angel shows him what could've been. Stream this Christmas classic on Amazon Video.
  • Miracle on 34th Street (1947)

Is there really a Santa Claus? That's what little Susan Walker wants to know, and a kindly man named Kris Kringle is there to help her suspend disbelief. Stream it on Disney+.
  • White Christmas (1954)

Is it really Christmas without Bing Crosby? Not it is not. In White Christmas, Bing plays a WWII vet turned Broadway star who, along with his Army buddy (Danny Kaye), romances a sister act (Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen) and tries to help save the Vermont lodge of a former commanding officer. Be warned: it gets Christmassy. Watch it on Netflix. Or stream another Bing Christmas classic, Holiday Inn, on Amazon Video.

  • Die Hard (1988)

Is Die Hard a Christmas movie? Of course it is. And if you can handle a few commercial breaks, you can stream it for free on Crackle right now.
  • A Very Brady Christmas (1988)

My mom recorded this for me off the television in 1988, and I watched it countless times. The Brady kids are all grown up, and Mike and Carol decide to forgo a Christmas vacation and have all six kids (and their families) home for the holidays. Not everyone is super jazzed about that, though. There are secret separations, layoffs, and more drama that obviously gets tied up in a bow at the end. Watch it on Hulu.
  • Home Alone (1990)

KEVIN! This Christmas classic is finally streaming thanks to Disney+. Relive your youth or introduce your kids to Kevin's adventures in keeping his gorgeous mansion safe from burglars when his parents accidentally leave him home alone and head to Paris for Christmas. There's also a sequel because Kevin has terrible parents.

  • The Muppet Christmas Carol (1992)

There have been countless movie re-tellings of this Charles Dickens classic. My personal favorite is Bill Murray's Scrooged, but a close second is The Muppet Christmas Carol, now on Disney+.
  • A Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

It's a Halloween movie. It's a Christmas movie. It's a little spooky. It's a little sweet. It's the greatest Tim Burton movie for the holidays. Stream it on Disney+.
  • The Santa Clause (1994)

This is the vaguely traumatizing story of a kid who accidentally kills Santa and convinces his dad to take the jolly old man's place. It apparently works out because The Santa Clause, Santa Clause 2, and Santa Clause 3 are all on Disney+.
  • How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

You can't stream the old-school Grinch cartoon, but you can terrify young children with the Jim Carrey version on Netflix.
  • Love, Actually (2003)

Ugh, this movie is terrible. You should watch The Holiday, instead. But some people love it, and if you are one of those people, it's streaming on HBO.
  • A Very Murray Christmas (2015)

George Clooney, Miley Cyrus, Maya Rudolph, and more join Bill Murray in this twist on a holiday variety show, directed by Sophia Coppola. Watch it on Netflix.
  • A Christmas Prince (2017)

Remember when Netflix called out the 53 people who supposedly watched A Christmas Prince 18 days in a row? I am not one of those people (promise), but I did watch it once because everyone needs an escape. And I wasn't alone. Enough people watched it that Netflix ordered up a wedding-themed sequel last year and a baby-themed version for 2019.

  • The Princess Switch (2018)

Meanwhile, the oddly entertaining Princess Switch stars Vanessa Hudgens is a Chicago baker accepted into a baking contest in a fake, overseas kingdom. There she meets a Meghan Markle type who is not super excited about becoming a princess, so the two switch places and festive hijinks ensue. Hudgens is back this year in The Knight Before Christmas, which looks kind of like a Hallmark version of Outlander.
