Swissbit Expands Miniaturized Storage Solutions with EM-30

Swissbit announced its has expanded its portfolio of miniaturized storage solutions with the EM-30 device, featuring an e.MMX-5.1 standard interface. It combines a controller with industrial grade 3D NAND and firmware.

The solution is offered in capacities of 16-256 GB.

Due to its established standards, integration can be completed easily. Further, the EM-30 operates within a temperature range of -40 to +85°C. Per a company release, the sequential data rates of up to 300 MB/s for read, and 230 MB/s for write, in addition to 39K IOPS for read and write random access, the solution delivers equivalent performance of SATA SSDs, but smaller in size.

Similarly to SSDs, EM-30’s firmware supports automatic background data refresh of read-only areas for instance occur with boot media. The firmware feature, in addition to error correction, allows for highly reliable data availability.

“The new e.MMC series is positioned to address the growing demands of embedded systems and their new chipsets, which typically require ultra-small, vibration-proof form factors with ever-increasing data-storage capacities,” said general manager of memory solutions at Swissbit Roger Griesemer, in the release. “Extended Lifetime Monitoring support combined with potential in-field firmware updates without data loss and typical Swissbit longevity makes the new EM-30 series a future proof solution for our customers."

The BGA measure at 11.5x13mm and comes with 153 ball housing with 0.5mm pitch. Users also have the option of a 100 ball, 1mm pitch.
