China donates two vehicles, medical items to boost Gambia's health service delivery

The Chinese Embassy in Banjul on Tuesday donated two vehicles, medicines and medical items to Gambian ministry of health, which will be used to improve the country's health service delivery.

Modou Njie, the director of health promotion and education at the ministry, said the support came to bridge the health inequity gap through the decentralization of service delivery to reach remote communities.

"We have the medical doctors, we have the nurses and we have various specialists within the hospitals, in both Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in Banjul and Serekunda General Hospital in Kanifing. But how do we get them to go into the field has been the problem and these vehicles will address that," he said.

"As The Gambia is our friend and partner, China decides to provide this kind of medical donations. I believe this reflects the valuable brotherly ties between out two governments and our people of both countries," Chinese ambassador to The Gambia Ma Jianchun said.
