Fort Smith planners approve food truck court
[

John McIntosh of 64.6 Downtown said the organization is planning to have two full-time food trucks at the Garrison Commons pocket park, 913-915 Garrison Ave. , as well as seasonal fruit. Granted that the Board of Directors gives the final stamp of approval, the food court is planned to be up and running in March.

,

The two full-time trucks will be Pie Scout, which serves pies, and Sweet Tea Kitchen , which is a farm-to-table concept, McIntosh said. The exact hours will ultimately be up to the food truck owners, but the idea is to primarily serve a lunch crowd.

,

Sweet Tea Kitchen owner Barbara Dene has had a farm in Mulberry since 1994, she said. She sells roasted, pulled beef, chicken and buffalo and gluten-free bread at her food truck. Everything is GMO-free, antibiotic-free and added hormone-free.

,

"I just try to let everyone eat without having to worry," she said.

,

Sweet Tea Kitchen also sells several seasoned butters, such as blueberry or caramelized onion, and dairy-free ice cream. The idea is for the truck to be like walking into a kitchen -- if the ingredients are there and they can make something that someone wants, they will, Dene said.

,

As a farmer, Dene knows several other farmers, and she'll ask them to sell seasonal fruit at the food truck court or buy fruit from them and sell it. Strawberries are planned to be first up, she said.

,

McIntosh said 64.6 Downtown and the food trucks will be participating in First Tuesday events and that 64.6 Downtown will be working the Fort Smith Downtown Business Association on bringing more live music downtown.
