Retailers always come out fighting at this time of the year in a desperate bid to grab your dollars for the holidays. This year, the focus seems to be on free shipping, how little you need to spend to qualify for it, and how many products are eligible for it.

Yesterday, Walmart set out its stall by introducing free two-day shipping for marketplace items. As long as you spend $35, third-party sellers can offer free shipping. However, today Target went a step further and removed the minimum spend in order to get free shipping. You can spend as little as you want online and two-day shipping is free.

That places the pressure right back on Amazon and Walmart, but it could also turn out to be a very expensive promotion if everyone starts buying just one or two cheap products. Target is obviously hoping you'll come do your Christmas shop on Target.com. The offer will apply to "hundreds of thousands of items" and will run from Nov. 1 to Dec 22.

While that may be the headline promotion, Target isn't stopping there. Same-day deliveries are now available across 48 states using Shipt. Some deliveries can happen in as little as an hour. Then there's the Drive Up service, which allows you to place an order using the Target app, drive to your local Target store, and have someone bring your order to your car. From order to collection can also take as little as an hour. Drive Up has been offered for a while, but just expanded to nearly 1,000 Target stores.

Target is also enticing you to come shop at its stores by promising over 1,400 curated gifts, most of which cost under $15. There's also an expanded range of toys with over 2,500 new and exclusive products and 20 new Target-only brands.
