Building Digital Skills: UNESCO’s Training Program for ALS Girl-Learners

Manila, the Philippines - Nearly 100 girls enrolled in the Alternative Learning System (ALS) participated in a training program focused on computer and ICT skills. The two-weeks training, held from 20 August to 30 August 2024, aimed at equipping learners, specifically ALS-girl learners, with essential skills on digital competencies for their future employment. It was conducted in partnership with expert trainers, and divided into four batches, each running for four days.

In today’s digital age, computer and ICT skills are vital for employment opportunities. The training prepared the girls with practical knowledge that will serve them well in the workforce. Participants learned the basics of computer operation, essential software application, internet and email usage, and online safety and security.

This training was part of UNESCO’s “Better Life for Out-of-School Girls to Fight Against Poverty and Injustice in the Philippines” project, which has been ongoing since 2017. By offering these critical skills, the project supports the Philippine government’s efforts to address gaps in basic education. It ensures that out-of-school girls have access to lifelong learning opportunities and are better prepared for the workforce. This initiative is aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) particularly SDG 4, which promotes quality education for all and aims to inspire a brighter future for the learners.
