The Zimbabwe Joint SDG Fund project and the Ministry of Energy and Power Development handed solar training equipment to the Zimbabwe Electricity Supply Authority (ZESA) Training Centre, to equip workers with green skills relevant to various sectors and make renewable energy technical training accessible and affordable in the wake of growing threats to energy supplies due to climate change.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, Minister of Energy and Power Development Hon. Edgar Moyo said, 

Speaking at the same event representing the United Nations Resident Coordinator, UNESCO Regional Office for Southern Africa Director, Ms Nisha said renewable energy is key to sustainable development.

The SDG Fund has embarked on a series of renewable energy skills trainings to address the gaps and needs that exist in the sector, with the first one running for two weeks at the ZESA training center, specifically targeting women and the youth. 

Further, representing the ZESA Training Centre Executive Chairperson, Group Financial Director Mr. Chikwenere said, "The solar equipment comes at a very critical period in ZESA as we focus on building capacity and advancing knowledge in the field of renewable energy."

The Joint SDG Programme aims to bridge the gap that exists in the market and promote project implementation by providing renewable energy technical assistance and building capacity among renewable energy project developers and investors. It also aims to de-risk investment in renewable energy and foster the integration of small-scale renewable energy businesses into the energy value chains through capacity building.
