UNESCO’s Innovative Tools for Media and Information Literacy

Empowering individual with the ability to access, analyze and engage critically with information is essential for navigating complexities in the digital age and cultivating media and information literate societies.

UNESCO has recently introduced two new user-friendly tools aimed at promoting MIL learning in the digital age.

Audio-Based MOOC

Think Critically, Click Wisely: Media and Information Literacy in the Next Normal

With billions tuning in daily to audio content via podcasts, radio or mobile devices, UNESCO launches its first fully audio-based MOOC. Think Critically, Click Wisely: Media and Information Literacy in the Next Normal uses storytelling and experiences to engage listeners in exploring MIL concepts.

Tailored to the challenges and opportunities of the digital age, this MOOC equips individuals with the knowledge and competencies to understand and critically engage with information both online and offline.

Guided by experts, the 20 thematic modules cover a range of topics, from fundamental MIL concepts to contemporary issues such as artificial intelligence,  mis/disinformation and hate speech.

Each module features an introduction, three episodes and an audio quiz, providing a comprehensive learning experience. The MOOC is available in English and Spanish, with selected episodes also available as a podcast series on the UNESCO Podcast library, as well as streaming platforms, including Spotify, Deezer, and Amazon Music.
