The 2^nd session of the second Advisory Committee and the 2^nd session of the second Governing Board of the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (“IKCEST” for short) were held in Xi’an on September 10, 2019.

The 2^nd session of the second Advisory Committee was presided over by CAE Member Pan Yunhe and Professor Raj Reddy, the co-chairs of the second Advisory Committee, and attended by the Advisory Committee members including Han Qunli, Zhuang Yueting, Jin Hai, He Liang, etc. At the meeting, representatives of the IKCEST General Platform and its four sub-platforms presented on their work progress and made online demonstrations on Disaster Risk Reduction, Intelligent City, Silk Road Sciences and Technology and Engineering Education. The Advisory Committee members had in-depth discussions and fully affirmed the work of IKCEST general and sub-platforms in the previous year, recognized its construction achievements, and put forward a series of suggestions, including staying problem-oriented and focusing on platform users and their needs; paying attention to the rate of update of data and establishing a personalized data growth mechanism; improving achievement- sharing between the general and sub-platforms; aiming for the needs of UNESCO etc.

The 2^nd session of the second Governing Board was chaired by CAE Member Pan Yunhe (on behalf of CAE Member Chen Zuoning, Chairperson of the Governing Board), and attended by Raj Reddy, CAE Member, Philippe Pypaert, Programme Specialist of UNESCO Beijing Office, Otthein Herzog, Member of German Academy of Science and Engineering, Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan, Fellow of Indian Academy of Sciences, Jan Eloff from the University of Pretoria in South Africa, and Zhou Jiagui, Deputy Secretary-General of the China National Commission for UNESCO (the Governing Board unit). The meeting adopted the minutes of the 1^st meeting of the Second Governing Board and Advisory Committee of IKCEST held in 2018; listened to IKCEST’s 2019 work report; discussed and approved in principle IKCEST’s 2020 work plan and discussed the location for IKCEST 2020 international symposium, Governing Board and Advisory Committee meeting, etc.

The meeting was also attended by the second Advisory Committee members of IKCEST, relevant personnel of the IKCEST Secretariat, and the expert team of the IKCEST general platform and sub-platforms.
