Wu said that "we are in a critical transition period." Urbanization is accompanied by the development of modernization. There will be two development paths in the process of urbanization. One is intellectual urbanization, and the other is physical urbanization. It can be seen from the world experience that cities can easily reach 75% urbanization rate. However, there are two different urbanization paths.

Nowadays, China is about to face a leap of urbanization from 58% to 80%. It is in the fork of the Y-shaped road and needs innovation and guidance. China's urbanization must be completed in a smart way.

Starting in 2017, the “Urban Tree” study will be carried out to tap 13,810 cities with a built-up area of one square kilometer. This is the first time in human history to know the number of real cities in the world. It is also the first time to measure under the same standards. World City, this is Tongji University's contribution to world city research.

Wu also gave a detailed introduction to the use of the website (http://icity.ikcest.org) to the teachers and classmates present.

Wu said the future city will be deeply influenced by AI, and the city will be the biggest application scenario for the next stage of AI. For urban planning, the future is coming.

Wu believes that the future city will be smart. Tongji University has been at the forefront of the world in terms of urban research and artificial intelligence. Now it is taking the lead in urban planning, and other disciplines will join the transformation of cities in all aspects.
